What is LVEF ?

Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction is short known as LVEF or only EF. There are four chambers in heart.

Right Atrium

Left Atrium

Right Ventricle

Left Ventricle

The left ventricle is the main pumping chamber of heart, that pumps oxygenated blood through aorta towards rest of body & offcourse we all knows, oxygenated blood is the need of each & every tissue to work properly and to live also. It mean's the pumping capacity of left ventricle is very-very important.

The left ventricle is the heart's main pumping section, so the ejection fraction of heart usually measured in left ventricle. LVEF is expressed or measured as percentage to determine how your heart is functioning a normal LVEF is 55% to 70%. Poor LVEF can be a sign of Heart-Failure, so the poor lvef is major problem of patient.

Importance of Good LVEF / Risk of Poor LVEF

LVEF less than 35%, a high risk, grater risk, of severe condition. Due to less than 35% lvef risk of threatening irregular heart beats increases, so that can cause sudden cardiac arrest or "Death". In the condition, LVEF les than 35% doctor's specifically suggest for special precaution.

Causes of Poor LVEF

Heart Attack

Coronary artery disease mean's blockages.

Cardiomyopathy

Cardiomegaly.
